Incredulous Rain or Shine owner shoots down pesky talk of Paul Lee-Barroca trade
BEFORE the trade rumors get out of hand, Rain or Shine's owner has come out and doused talk on the alleged trade of Paul Lee to the San Mig Coffee Mixers.
Rain or Shine co-owner Raymund Yu has shot down rumors of a Lee swap for fellow sophomore guard Mark Barroca of San Mig that is circulating in internet chat rooms and simply refuses to die down.
Another version of the trade rumor has Lee being traded to Barangay Ginebra Miguel.
“Hindi totoo yun, dapat ba kaming pumayag?” said Yu, who reiterated his team’s desire to maintain an intact lineup.
“Wala namang sinasabi si Coach Yeng (Guiao) na kailangang movement… kaya status quo kami,” he added.
Guiao had earlier told Spin.ph that he plans to keep his core intact but is looking at the coming draft to plug holes in his frontline. The Painters have two first-round picks in the 2013 draft.
Even without changes, Yu remained confident his team will be formidable in the next two years.
“Kahit two years na hindi kami mag-trade o magdagdag ng bago, okay kami,” he said.
Team governor Mert Mondragon also stressed the team’s philosophy of putting premium on chemistry, explaining why the Painters avoid the constant tweaking of their lineup.
“Mas sanay na kami sa walang masyadong galaw-galaw sa lineup. Dun kami mas effective eh,” said Mondragon, who has been part of the team since it captured six championships in the defunct PBL.
Even Lee said he is not paying attention to the rumors.
“Wala akong masabi dito Rain or Shine, pamilya ang trato sa amin. Kaya kahit kaming mga players parang magkakapatid ang turingan,” said the former University of the East star.
"Pero hindi ako naniniwala dun (sa rumor), hangga't hindi si Coach Yeng ang mismong nagsasabi sa akin."
