Knights withstand huge endgame rally by Stags
LETRAN withstood a late surge by San Sebastian to score a 74-69 victory on Saturday night and set its title bid in motion in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Defensive specialist Raymond Almazan continued his transformation to an all-around player as he shone on both ends of the floor and held the fort for the Knights when the Stags rallied in the stretch.
The rebuilding Stags, now without their dreaded “Pinatubo Trio” of Calvin Abueva, Ian Sangalang, and Ronald Pascual, pulled to within one, 66-67, after trailing most of the way, but failed to complete the endgame comeback .
