Romeo named UAAP Player of the Week anew
MANILA – Far Eastern University guard Terrence Romeo has been named the UAAP Player of the Week for the third time in the Season 76 men’s basketball tournament.
Romeo was instrumental in the Tamaraws’ 7-0 sweep of the first round of the tournament, and is leading the UAAP’s Most Valuable Player race so far.
FEU Coach Nash Racela has repeatedly preached team basketball this season, but with a chance to sweep the first round hanging in the balance, he allowed Romeo to take over and create his shots.
“That’s when you need his ability, those moments. Doon ko siya papayagan,” said Racela.
Romeo hit clutch baskets for FEU in their 74-71 win over Adamson last Sunday, which allowed the Tamaraws to complete their sweep of the first round.
His stellar performance earned the former Rookie of the Year and last season’s Mythical Five member to earn another ACCEL 3XVI UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week.
It was the third time in four weeks of the UAAP first round that Romeo received the plum, with teammate RR Garcia as the only other winner of the weekly award presented by Gatorade and sports scribes from leading broadsheets, tabloids, and online publications.
Romeo edged Ateneo’s Kiefer Ravena and National University’s Bobby Ray Parks for the weekly award.
